Now celebrating ten years in the communities local to Wormsley, our Learning & Participation team brings an extensive, year-round programme to schools, hospitals, community groups and online audiences. Many of our recent projects are now being used as exemplars in opera houses across Europe, as we continue to share our projects and evaluation with others.
We are proud of the work we produce with participants of all ages, using music and drama as tools to improve lives across the county, the country and the globe.
OperaFirst Working with 16 local state schools, we deliver in-school workshops before inviting 600 children to Wormsley to watch full performances. Through these larger projects we recruit young people from all backgrounds into the more intensive projects described below.
Youth Company Engaging young people further in opera, we work more intensively with this group of 100 young people throughout the year, commissioning new work for annual productions on stage at Wormsley.
Adult Company Offering opportunities for local people to perform, create and join together regularly. Innovative projects include performing newly-commissioned pieces on our stage and working in hospital settings where our community participants support those recovering from stroke or spinal injury through music.
Online We have created digital resources for people of all ages across the world to access at home. These short films are also used in school settings, following our workshop projects, to extend the impact of our work with young people in our local communities.
The Learning & Participation Programme is funded exclusively by donations and grants. If you would like to learn more about this work and how you can help, please contact membership@garsingtonopera.org
