The five works in our 2022 Season contain some of the greatest music ever written for the stage. From the beginnings of the art form (Orfeo) to a world premiere (Dalia), we celebrate four hundred years of opera and the power of music to unite us all through the shared experience of live performance.
We continue our partnership with The English Concert for Monteverdi s Orfeo, a brilliant and compelling fable, which express a vast palate of emotions, and the miracle which is Così fan tutte Mozart and Da Ponte s final collaboration, which creates a glorious comedy that teeters on the brink of tragedy.
The Philharmonia Orchestra joins us for Dvořák s powerful and moving opera, Rusalka. Based on a romantic fairy tale, its music reveals layers of both mystery and meaning, exploring the nature of love and what it means to be human. In total contrast, Britten s chilling The Turn of the Screw interrogates the borders between fantasy and reality with dramatic intensity in Louisa Muller s award-winning 2019 production.
Finally, we welcome 180 community participants to perform a brand new work on our stage. Dalia, written by Roxanna Panufnik and Jessica Duchen, will unite local people of all ages with choirs from Palestine and Syria, sharing a powerful articulation of humanity. I look forward to experiencing it all with you in our beautiful environment at Wormsley.
